Admission 2025 | Call for Applications – Entrance Exam
Registration and Portfolio submission
The registration and portfolio submission period to apply for the Art&Science Master's degree program starts on 15 January
2025, 13:00 CET. The registration, portfolio submission and the entrance exam will be fully online.
Entry requirements
To study Art & Science, you will find all information here: https://www.dieangewandte.at/programmes and need to pass the entrance exam. Candidates should show a special interest in transdisciplinary projects and the ability to deal with techniques that experiment with different methods and media. The two-year programme is held in English so candidates should also be comfortable in conversing and writing in this language (no language certificate is necessary).
Application Procedure in 2025
The entrance exam consists of three phases. Each phase requires a positive assessment to move on to the next step.
Phase 1
15–29 January 2025 – 13:00 p.m. CET – Registration & Portfolio submission period
1. Fill registration form
Upload preferably as ONE Pdf-document:
2. Letter of motivation – stating your interest in art and science as well as in the approach of the course (What do I expect from the course? Why do I want to study this? What is my professional vision for the future?)
3. Curriculum vitae – including contact information (telephone, email)
4. Digital portfolio – with your artistic and/or scientific works; if your portfolio is not in German/English, please translate the abstract only. Please use this format: PDF, max. 50 MB or include link to shared drive in your motivation letter; name file: FirstName_LastName_Portfolio
first half of February: notification by email from the Art & Science department
Positive assessment of the first phase is a requirement for the second phase. (Any other communication you may have with other departments of the Angewandte such as student office regarding visas etc. does not imply that you have already passed the first phase).
Phase 2
24 February 2025 – Written and practical task 1
and 25 February 2025 – Written and practical task 2
Each day: 10:00 CET task distribution; 16:00 CET task submission; via email/tool
The second phase lasts two days and consists of two conceptual/creative tasks in the fields of art and science to be completed in English. Nothing is to be prepared in advance.
27 February: notification by email by the Art & Science department
Positive assessment of the second phase is a requirement for the third phase, the interview.
Phase 3
28 February 2025 – Interviewonline via zoom (link and times will follow)
In the third phase, your aptitude for the programme is reviewed in an interview with the team.
In the week after: Notification of the final results by email by the Art & Science department
Positive assessment of all three phases is a requirement to pass the entrance exam.
7 March 2025, 13:00 CET – General feedback meeting (optional)
For applicants who have not passed the exam; please note that we cannot offer any personal and further feedback beyond this one date.
Start of studies: October 2025
Enrolment/Admission period for the first semester at Angewandte starts in September with the Office of Student Affairs, studien@uni-ak.ac.at.
